I had promised to get back to this list with proposals for how SME Server, Inc. could be commercialized so as to provide a sustainable basis for going forward with the project. Over the last five weeks or so, I have been soliciting the private thoughts of many people on this list, and people external to this list, regarding their opinion on the best way to go forward. In particular, over the last three weeks, I have been soliciting advice from the East Coast and West Coast investment communities on the best way to raise money for a commercialized venture that honors the letter and spirit of the open-source project. I have now wrapped up those discussions. I expect to report back to the community within the next week on my suggestions for the way forward, and I hope my suggestions will restart a lively discussion, and gain a consensus on the way forward.
