Hi Chris,

These were my vague thoughts...

Please ask me for any clarification. I am open to any ideas too !

I'm trying to K.I.S.S. and not get too bogged down in minutiae - it's
really to a get a loose idea of who does what.

Overall leadership and manager of SME Server / contribs.org

Responsible for writing lots of boring dross ;-)

Taking the community's comments, opinions and desires and trying to
ensure that these are carried out by the appropriate teams.

Responsible for driving the latest development line of SME Server -
currently v9

Presumption that currently the Dev team are debugging their work as they
go !

Naming - I have no problem with retaining the original name.

Responsible to the Development team for testing the latest modifications
to the new development version etc.

Could also assist with testing any current updates to the mainline
version if required (?)

This is really in two parts - Current (mainline) and Contribs

So kind of

Bugs and maintenance :

    Current SME v8 mainline packages

    Contributed packages
        Package maintainers
        Old packages

------------------------------------------------------------------

Responsible for maintaining current release and ensuring it is kept up
to date.

Again, this is split here in two parts..........

(assumption that generally Package Contributors will Maintain & Debug
their own packages)
Responsible for maintaining their contribs against the current release.
Hope that they will look at upgrading them to the development release.

Responsible for maintaining unsupported contribs against the current
release. Hope that they will look at upgrading them to the development
release.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Responsible for the updating of all Wiki Documents. (no mean feat !!!)
Where pages exist for contribs there needs to be liaison with the
contrib maintainer

>

Responsible for Forum moderation, triage to give assistance where
possible, or call in the Dev team if required / pass to Bug Tracker.

--------

A few extra notes on this area....

Part of the job is being more "pro-active" with users. I know sometimes
their requests can be frustrating, but they need educating, channelling
and guiding where possible.

Forums could do with some Sticky - HowTo's on posting in the forums,
reading the wikis with links to some of the basic documentation, bug
reporting with links to wiki howtos, etc.

ALL posts should be answered one way or another if at all possible. Even
if it is 'sorry no one has answered'.

Helping them with their bug reports, especially if they have never done
one before. Rather than just 'post a bug' point them to a sticky that
tells them how & why, and offer to help them with it.

It may seem obvious to us.....

Also need some sort of sticky with 'we need your help' in it.
