One of the biggest problems I have right now is knowing who is doing what. I know there are a whole bunch of people out there beavering away like mad. There are others watching from a distance and not sure how best to get involved. I obviously know the main players, but there are many others who I see pop up from time to time filing bugs or whatever, but who we hear nothing else of. Currently I think we need to look at a SME v8.1 with all the current updates installed as they are a big bundle and I have comments from people who do not have big fat pipes in their clients offices that are saying that trying to download 212mb on a dialup is a non starter! This is political as much as anything, and shows that we are still going to look after v8 whilst building v9. It is also going to take some effort. I would like to try and have two teams really - one to box off v8.1 and another to continue work on v9. However, as I mentioned above, knowing who is doing what is a tad difficult and makes organising anything almost impossible. I appreciate that getting people to add their names on a mailing list is not necessarily the best way of finding out who is doing what. However, right now I don't know of a better solution - there are wiki pages where people can add their names but these don't seem to get touched. Somehow we MUST get a bit more organised. If not we will end up duplicating effort and wasting our precious time and resources, or even worse, nothing will get done at all. Anybody got any bright ideas on how we can address this, short of a post on the lists ???? B.
