It is just a different (I'd say more modern...) web management
interface on top of essentially the same linux code base.   They are
currently also a bit ahead in terms of having a release based on a
RHEL6 rebuild and they seem to have some infrastructure for commercial
add-ons and support.   I haven't used either enough recently to
comment on the specific details of what each can do out of the box,
but it is mostly the same and there is no real difference in what they
could do if you are talking about adding things.   I believe ClearOS
has the ability to use LDAP for user management even on your initial
install so adding more machines that share the user base might be
easier than with SME.
