Ah yes - easily missed :-) On mine it points to online documentation - I don't believe we have a local copy installed ? Perhaps we should look at the links being slightly more obvious, and even 'context sensitive' i.e. say the Backup/Restore panel has a help link to the relevant pages of the manual in the wiki ? Perhaps contrib writers should be encouraged to add direct links from their panels to their FAQ or contrib pages ? Maybe we should have a 'Help' section at the top left of the panel above everything else ??? > >> Some items I personally don't think are good ideas - e.g. turning on SSH >> and Samba by default, but these are personally preferences. > > Unless I missed something, samba is already on by default. Samba - yes I agree the comments were inaccurate as they did not really understand, but I think the point they made was that there are no shares set up by default (I think this is compared to the other distro which apparently seems to do this). Yes, personally for security I think that is good, but the point is that it isn't necessarily obvious to the untrained eye. "We" all know how it works. It is interesting to hear from someone who doesn't.... SSH - again I agree, but again we have to explain that in a more obvious way. > >> Maybe we >> need to look at a slightly enhanced install or post install system >> whereby you ask if you want certain services on ? > > Maybe. But it is up to us to make sure they DO understand. Hence I felt it was good to have someone independent who knew nothing much about us and was feeling their way around. It's the only way we can learn and improve. If a user feels it is too difficult or awkward then they will go elsewhere (note the final conclusion - I am sure if the reviewer understood more the recommendation might have been different). That is not good for us, and not good for the customer either if they end up with a product that is inferior..... _______________________________________________ Discussion about project organisation and overall direction To unsubscribe, e-mail [email protected] Searchable archive at http://lists.contribs.org/mailman/public/discussion/
