Hi, roh made a beautiful Milkymist One wood case a few days ago, see http://www.milkymist.org/mmone.html (scroll down a little)
If I understand correctly, the toolpath was (GPL licensed) QCad to design the cut and drill files, saved in DXF files that were then fed to a RABBIT 40B laser cutter. It took 12 minutes on the laser cutter, and Raumfahrtagentur charges 1 EUR / minute so the cost of the case came to 12 EUR for the cutting plus material. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_cutting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QCad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DXF The work was done at the Raumfahrtagentur hackerspace in Berlin, Germany. They have quite a nice website with background info about their equipment (some only in German). http://raumfahrtagentur.org/ After this great first step, the next unsolved mysteries are: 1) connectors are not labeled 2) the microphone is inside and there needs to be some opening in the case. 3) we need a solution to hold the buttons in place (glued right now but that probably will not last very long) 4) currently the groove is made by cutting two thin lines into the wood, and then scratching out the wood in between with a screwdriver. Need a better solution. 5) try the case in acrylic instead of wood 6) the top and bottom parts are not fastened well or at all, after switching to acrylic we need to think how we can hold these pieces together and make it stable. Excellent work from roh! Feedback welcome as always, Wolfgang _______________________________________________ Qi Hardware Discussion List Mail to list (members only): [email protected] Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://lists.en.qi-hardware.com/mailman/listinfo/discussion
