In my opinion, the gNewSense and linux-libre people would be better off creating new software instead of conducting those useless projects. To name a few areas that need work, there is a big need for a replacement for the Autotools and a better compiler/linker. Have you ever read a configure script or the GCC source code? They are no better than most blobs regarding understandability and the possibility to modify them.
But of course, this is MUCH HARDER to do than just stripping off blobed drivers (so people needing them will have more difficulty getting their hardware to work, useful feature that!) and removing references to/packages of non-free software (given the total lack of good free alternatives in some domains, this is a stupid idea as well). What a pointless bunch of crap and a utter waste of time.
