I made a real solution that is inexpensive and vastly re-doable: fabric paint. I cleaned the glue from the hole and filled it with fabric paint then used a toothpick to round out the bump. The whole tube of paint was 1 USD and when it dries it is rather grippy and rubberlike. See for yourself:
