It could work to make a direct implementation of PS2 on Ben, but i think it would be best to have a micro controller in between. As i understood it's the mouse that drives the clock signal so timing could be tricky.
It could even be quite easy to make a mouse dedicated to Ben, most (if not all) senors in optical mice use I²C to talk to the main mouse controller so it could talk directly to Ben, and the button could be connected directly to data lines if needed. In either case it could be a good idea to have a micro controller translating between protocols so Ben thinks it's just a serial mouse by the same specs as Werner's serial adapter ( http://projects.qi-hardware.com/index.php/p/ben-blinkenlights/source/tree/master/uart ).
