Hmm, I wonder if this would really lead in a good direction.
As I understand it, your objective is to make the platform more
attractive for more developers, expecting this to result in more
applications to be written for the NanoNote (Ben or other), thus
boosting the attractiveness of the platform for end users, and
hopefully generating further positive feedback for development.
Correct ?
Now, for HTML5/CSS/JS to play a role in this, a few conditions
would have to be met:
- there have to be prospective developers who would write
applications for the NanoNote if it had all these things, but
who don't at the moment because it lacks them:
There would be two groups:
1) those who already know about the NanoNote and the only thing
that prevents them from developing for it is that it lacks a
HTML5/CSS/JS platform. We should be able to find out if those
exist.
2) those who don't know the NanoNote yet and would only become
aware of it if it had HTML5/CSS/JS. E.g., because you could
then advertize it in some HTML5 forum or such.
Plus, once they become aware of it, they would still have to
be interested in developing for it.
- developers who require a HTML5/CSS/JS basis would have to be
content with just that and not require additional elements that
may be difficult to provide, such as
- further layers of middleware, e.g., additional libraries,
- development tools, e.g., some specific IDE,
- hardware/system features, such as ubiquitous Internet access,
- economical incentives, such as an app store with many paying
possible customers
Also, since you'd probably have to remove some functionality, the
developers would also have to be content with the reduced feature
set you can offer. Likewise, any middleware or tools they may use
would also either have to work with the reduced feature set or be
adapted.
If these conditions are not met, no amount of effort poured into
bringing HTML5 and friends to the NanoNote would result in more
developers.
And then there's also the question if the opportunity cost of
building such a platform wouldn't exceed what you get out of it.
E.g., couldn't all the people who may spend years building this
infrastructure be as much motivated and productive writing the
applications we hope for, using the existing platform ? Or do other
things that could increase the sexiness of the NanoNote platform ?
