After setting the root password on ben, I just did:
ssh ben 'cat >>/etc/dropbear/authorized_keys' <~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
And it works fine!

Hmm... tt's works fine here.
What's "tt"? Tried /etc/dropbear/authorized_keys and
/root/.ssh/authorized_keys both with RSA and DSA keys. Nothing works.
Typed my password already a thousand times when uploading test-packages
