Needs to be a big one. And then you still need to find the money. > Maybe it's also time to change the way people think about what men > and women should like or do, or failing that, simply be more picky > about dating. The skills required to drive a new car are also much more common than those to a) build and b) operate such a machine. Besides, that project is also bracketed between lower-cost 3D mills/routers and higher-cost 4D/5D devices. For a lot of things, 3D is plenty, is easily sourced locally anywhere, ready to use, and has fewer headache-inducing software issues. If you're using that machine commercially, you may not be able to afford long downtimes when something goes wrong, and you'd thus want commercial technical support (with readily available spare parts and all that). So the niche where that critter makes sense is actually quite small. Kickstarter seems like a poor choice for such a things, because it assumes a fairly homogenous and anonymous user base. For this project, it would seem more logical to have local groups of enthusiasts that gather around building and jointly owning one such machine. With all the problems that model entails. It also has the issue of being solution-driven and not problem-driven, with a wide gap between the two. Also this speaks against Kickstarter, with a typically short and fixed collection interval. But maybe all this worked in his favour and he found someone who needs a custom design. That would be a perfect match. - Werner _______________________________________________ Qi Hardware Discussion List Mail to list (members only): [email protected] Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://lists.en.qi-hardware.com/mailman/listinfo/discussion
