One comment, since someone brought up Linus as an example of a
dictator: Linus was never chosen! on the contrary, he rose to the
position of "benevolent dictator" by virtue of merit, of having made
the right decisions time and time again. To make the analogy clear, a
"chairman of the board" should never be elected, as Alon is proposing
- he should rise naturally from the board members and the larger
community by virtue of his *actions*. And if he doesn't... well,
that's fine too.
