IMHO this is something to fight about/for. The main reason I left Windows in the late 90's was that I got tired of having to pay $2000-$3000 for a desktop every couple of years b/c the new version of MS would not work with the older hardware.
If the government forces me to use windows, they should provide it free of charge, preferably with a coupon for free installation for the less initiated. This is the government supporting a monopoly, most likely because MS puts money in someone's re-election fund. And it is very easy to write programs that work across OS's. Someone should point them in the direction of Java, C, C++, PHP, Python, Ruby, etc. that can be compiled for each OS. I have no problem with any bank account using firefox on linux, except, of course with Israeli banks. Tell me who to complain to, and I will.
