Hi Guys,

I started a blog as a writing exercise. Looking for something
uncontroversial to write about, I decided on Dan Ariely's book 'The upside
of irrationality', where, among other things, he discusses the issue of
irrational response to natural disasters (
http://wordz2u.blogspot.com/2012/06/exploring-and-preventing-irrational.html),
and proposed some solution. I then thought it might be interesting to
expand my idea of solution, and wrote a second entry, detailing a possible
solution, which to some extent follows the principles of open source -
community effort, without a profit motive, to help humanity (
http://wordz2u.blogspot.com/2012/07/distributed-disaster-response.html).

I would appreciate comments about the viability of such an effort. In
particular I wonder whether something like that could (and indeed should)
use an existing social network, such as facebook or google plus. I have
serious misgivings about proprietary walled garden such as FB. Twitter
seems fine for now, and google I am not so sure about.

This might tie in with the discussion about firemen in a way - like
Ushaidi.org, but with writers on top of the maps.

If you do follow the links and comment, please be nice. I prefer comments
through this group than on my blog.

Thanks,

Z.
