Title: RE: [displaytag-devel] display09/src - New directory
Hi
i finished to fix the code in the display09 module: now all the features implemented in 0.8.5 version are working, plus lots of new little features/fixing.
Tha table tag works with an iterator approach maintaining compatibility with the previous way of work; most of the bugs currently submitted in sourceforge are fixed in this release (first of all: you can use more table tag in tha same page, also nested).

The display09 module actually contains java source code and the example website (with a new xhtml look ;) ). Build script and docs (other than samples) are still missing: I'm working in completely rewrite the build script, the actual one from jakarta is a way too complex and contains to much useless tasks for us.

I still have to complete the sample website, adding descriptions of more features and changes (mainly adding new properties you can set, declaring deprecated ones, explain how you can specify a custom properties file for the web application without having to use setProperty tags...)

anyway, please try to test it!

to build the code you need 4 jakarta-commons libraries:
commons-lang, commons-collections, commons-beanutil, commons-logging

let me know if everything works for you

fabrizio

PS. Hi john, about your sugestion: I tried to make the html output like one of the possible views, but I thought that is a way too complex due to pagination, sorting, linking feature that are not present in other views. Export views are really simple compared to the html output and probably making html one of the views will result in making everything more complex

Well, I've had a chance to briefly review what you've got here and for the
most part I really like it. You've followed pretty much the same path that
I did in my refactorings, so that's very reassuring for both of us! The
thing that I notice though is that you have many more source files than I
ended up with and about 4 times the number of lines of code. This isn't
necessarily a bad thing since you've added many more comments that I did,
but I think that maybe we should use both of these code bases as a basis
for further refactoring.

I never ended up with full compatibility with the existing tag, but that's
because I didn't want to add additional bulk into the tag that wasn't
needed anymore. If your code is actually 100% compatible, then I'd
definitely vote to start with your code base and work from there.

I would make one suggestion though, I think you should treat the HTML
output part of your tag as just another View object and remove all the
HTML specific stuff from the TableTag.java file.

Has anybody else had a chance to review this code yet? Thoughts?

Thanks, Fabrizio, this stuff looks great! Too bad we couldn't have come
together sooner and saved each other some time! :)
