I did look at your prototype (and in fact asked on the user list if it was being pursued but got no reply). However it looked like it changed a large amount of code. I was comparing your prototype (which is a few months old I believe) to the current version which may account for the large differences I was seeing, but the number of changes put me off looking at using your code for production use. I was looking for a simpler alternative - I am of the opinion that the simplest solution I have considered to date if backwards compatibility is not an issue is to change the Decorator class to pass more contextual information to the decorate method (think something more akin to the Swing renderer model).
