I think few mails on the subject have been posted some time ago on the mailing lists...
anyway, plan about 1.0 is: fix what has now been marked in sf tracker as "planned for 1.0", avoiding new features.
_So please, no pagination enhancements now!_
I really think that adding EL support before 1.0 release has been an error. EL support should have been added only after 1.0 (if I remember well this was discussed in some mails).
The code that has been added in CVS to add EL support to displaytag (IMHO) really sucks:
it's absolutely not flexible, requires different classes in the dtd, has to be mantained separately (both for the dtd and classes)... and code is abolutely not adhering to any code standard we choose, no javadocs, etc...
I was starting playing with a customizable _expression_ evaluator (so that users could choose to use EL or not with a simple configuration property in displaytag.properties) or using Invocation handlers (dynamic proxy) to automatically filter any parameter before setting it in the real tag class... anyway, I think we will need to go on with this implementation for 1.0 and totally rewrote it after...
just to say: if we want to release a 1.0 version, soon or later, don't plan to add any new big feature now... I absolutely agree to add anything can make the taglib more flexible now, but not new complex features that need to be tested by users (and fixed).

Subject: [displaytag-devel] Roadmap?
Do we have any kind of roadmap for 1.0 or 1.1? If not, it might be a good time to start one. If you want to toss ideas around on my wiki - feel free: http://raibledesigns.com/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=DisplayTagRoadmap I haven't started anything here yet. I am scheduled to do a short talk on the displaytag at a conference in early April (http://raibledesigns.com/page/rd?anchor=nyc_displaytag_and_struts_menu) . I'll be (hopefully) creating my presentation this week - I'll be briefly covering the history of the tag, some cool features and I'm also hoping to throw together an editable table example. If there's anything else you think I should add, please let me know. Matt ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net is sponsored by: Speed Start Your Linux Apps Now.
