I think Fabrizio had started a conversation about some concerns about el lib being put into the standard distribution. I didn't get a chance to jump into that thread ( day job / family /etc), but I agree that the el tag needs a great deal of API work before it is ready for prime time. It's on my todo-when-time-avail list :( I think the SQL integration is a great thing IF we are sticking with the JSTL tags idioms - or at least reserve the ability to make such changes in the near future.
