how did you open excel files in a new window using http?

you should be able to force file download adding to your displaytag.properties:
export.excel.filename=something.xls

This actually works for me also using https. I'm closing this bug as a "can't 
duplicate" unless you are able to post addictional details.

We can open a new browser for Excel Export through http. But through https, Excel 
still open in the current browser.
