I have this requirement for my current project and am mid way through implementing this. My customers want to be able to modify the columns displayed, but I don't want them to have to hack jsps.

The approach I'm taking is provide the table tag with the name of a table configuration bean. Using this bean it will be possible to:

1) Hide any columns defined by column tags
2) Define new columns
3) Re-order columns

I've introduced a dependancy on the Jakarta JSTL implementation to enable me to have nice i18n column headings for 2) above.

If you are interested I can get some code to you after I have finished (derived from 1.0b2). I won't be able to provide a patch I'm afraid as I'm not planning to integrate my code with CVS until 1.0 is released.

Is there a way to change the column display order without using column tags?
