[displaytag-user] List stored as??

Where are youstoring the list that ou are calling??  Is it a JAVA 
class?  Or can you manipulate result sets from MySQL database query 
outputs also (i.e. when page is display, SELECT * from a table is shown, 
using the <display> to allow sorting and auto-links)??
