Thanks Matt, I look forward to your book. I have a "beef" with some of
the examples, yours included. First off don't take this the wrong way;
it is not personalized, just in general. With that said, I feel that too
many of the Spring examples have too many "other" technologies mixed in
with them. By this I mean, I will try to learn Spring, but I don't know
struts. I might know tag libraries but I don't know Velocity or
Tapistry. I might know JDBC, but don't know DAO and Hibernate/Ibatis.
I know, new frameworks are great but it can make learning more
difficult. I grew up on Jason Hunters "Java Servlet Programming Book"
with a bunch of "workable" examples. I spend more time getting class
paths correct, using the correct version of jar files, editing xml files
and xxx.properties files, and checking compatibility that I wonder if
the mission of increased productivity is a reality with all these
frameworks. Why can't there be a nice example that uses one table and
demonstrates an insert, update, and delete using "just"
hibernate/Spring? Then you can add on to the core learning with
additional frameworks. Isn't struts a framework on its own?
Whew! I feel better now.
Anyone else feel like me, or am I alone :-(
Whaa whaa whaa

You've probably already seen the Spring Live sample app and QuickStart
Chapter?
