Basically displaytag will not do this. There's really no reason why it should or would even be able to. Everything outside of <display:table> is outside of the scope of the displaytag library. You should look at the Jakarta POI libraries for handling this: http://jakarta.apache.org/poi Basically this gives you a LOT more control over the export process than displaytag on its own does.
