Jon, Can you use a column decorator to do your other logic? That may solve your issue.

CCCC FFFF aaaa bbbb dddd eeee It seems to sort descriptions that start with a capital letter first and then sort descriptions with lower case afterwards. Does anyone have an idea why this would be? This isn't the case if i simply use property="description", which I can't use since i need some extra logic to change the description in the jsp. Any ideas? Thanks.
