We have a web application where users entered product names into a form and the data is saved to the database. We then use displaytags to display the data. Some of the product names need to contain the Registered Trademark symbol (R) or <code>®<code> in HTML, and the Trademark symbol (TM) or <code>™<code> in HTML. These symbols appear correctly when the displaytag table is rendered in the browser but appear as the HTML entity codes when exported to Excel, CSV, or PDF. Has anyone found a good way to enter these symbols into a web form and have them render correctly in all of these formats?
We've tried copy-pasting the symbol from an MS Word document but this doesn't work consistently from one PC to another and we obviously don't want to depend on users having MS Word.
