What you can do is to put debug statement, i.e.,

boolean *isThereARow* = rs.last();

*isThereARow* variable should be true if there are records from your query.

If you are not getting any exceptions or stack trace, I would suppose that
everything is okay EXCEPT that your QUERY is not returning any records at
all.
