Hmm, I just dug further into the problem. It seems that logrotate had a
problem with the rcd logrotate configuration (red carpet, something I
don't even use) and stops. Uninstalling that package even has a rpm
scriptlet failing. logrotate shouldn't stop when one of its config files
has an error of any kind (syntax, missing logfile, ...)
On other systems it has been succesfully rotating its logfiles. So it was
just the wrong system I picked ;) I won't use my laptop as sample machine
anymore...
