hi, im a newbie in distcc and i created a test to figure out the best numbers to run distcc on my cluster. i used the following: 1) DISTCC_HOSTS="--randomize server1/11 server2/11 .... server9/11" 2) 9 servers. each of them has 8 cpus and 11 disccd jobs 3) make -j 99 -l 9 (my server also has 8 cpus) 4) my makefile compiles 2000 c++ files(same source file) 4)distcc version:distcc 3.2rc1 x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu (protocols 1, 2 and 3) (default port 3632) built Oct 26 2012 12:33:34
the compilation seems really fast and distcc compiles in all servers :). but some times i get in stdout the line: distcc[11686] (dcc_connect_by_name) ERROR: failed to look up host ""--randomize": Unknown host compiling on local host..... am i using the --randomize flag in a wrong way or is it some kind of a bug? thanks, tal
