I mean, I know that the stuff you mention is not on the 0.5 LiveCD. So you probably aren't talking about a CD-boot. Anyway - in theory this would be possible, too (to boot off CD and then add packages from a repo). But given your scenario and question, this is of course rather unlikely (because the root-fs would then not be ro anymore). Ok, just for the record.
