I guess another yes/no way of checking if things are sleeping is to check the 
"hd" command for temperature

clearly these disks are idle, but the WD doesn't spin down completely it 
appears from the temps, whereas the seagate does. normal operating temps are 
closer to 34C 

Can I apply this device-threshold to USB disks as well? c3 and c4 disks?
