Your statements implied that a higher performance cost would be paid by the 
mere existence of additional directories on sys.path.  This is not true, 
since it is quite possible to run programs without having any failed 
imports, if a sitecustomize.py is present.  In all honesty, I had forgotten 
about sitecustomize.py, and so thought this was much "more untrue" than it 
actually is.  Due to the relative infrequent appearance of 
sitecustomize.py, your statement about this in fact true for the majority 
of installations, and I apologize for my statement.
