There are currently discussions going on about deprecating the official public mirroring infrastructure. If this happens it does not mean that you cannot operate and maintain your mirror, but it does mean that we will not be handing out any more N.pypi.python.org names (and the ones we have will eventually be removed. Users will be directed to external resources such as http://pypi-mirrors.org/ to locate mirrors if they wish to use one.
