Hi Hussein, Your suggestion worked, but the figures and tables are numbered 4-1, 4-2, A-1, etc., with the chapter or appendix number/letter preceding the figure or table number. Is there a way to number then sequentially throughout the entire document, without prepending the chapter or appendix number? Thank you, Julie

A Table of Contents cannot reference Tables and Figures, only parts, chapters, sections, etc. However you can automatically generate a "List of Tables" and a "List of Figures". Procedure: [1] Your DITA table and fig elements must have a title child element. [2] You must specify XSLT stylesheet parameter: mumber as: all or as a list of options which includes: table fig See http://www.xmlmind.com/ditac/_distrib/doc/manual/xsltParams.html#xsltParams__number [3] A Table of Contents cannot reference Tables and Figures, only parts, chapters, sections, etc. However you can automatically generate a "List of Tables" and a "List of Figures". In order to do this, You can either specify that in your bookmap. Example: --- <frontmatter> <booklists> <toc chunk="to-content" copy-to="index.html"/> <figurelist chunk="to-content"/> <tablelist chunk="to-content"/> </booklists> <bookabstract chunk="to-content" href="introduction.dita"/> </frontmatter> --- OR, if you are using a plain map, edit the conversion specification (e.g. ditaToDocx) using XMLmind XSL Utility, select the DITA tab, select "Generate as frontmatter" in the "List of Tables" combobox and select "Generate as frontmatter" in the "List of Figures" combobox. See attached screenshot. Example of such "List of Tables" and "List of Figures": http://www.xmlmind.com/docrep/_distrib/doc/manual/manual.html --> As always, if what does XMLmind DITA Converter (through XMLmind XSL Utility) is not exactly what you want (e.g. you want a ':' after the number; you want a ``flat numbering'' for figures and tables where ditac generates chapter_number.figure_number_within_the_chapter), then you'll have to modify the XSLT stylesheets.
