     i don't understand how to use the variables described in the

What i would like to do is include topic-title of a dita file in the
footer. I was hoping that if i did something like this
"-p", "header-center","%topic-title" on the command line then the topic
title for the footer would be dynamically taken from the topic section
of the dita file.

The topic-title variable{{topic-title}} says that

    The title of the current topic. All topics are guaranteed to have a
    corresponding{{topic-title}}. Even automatically generated topics
    such astocorindexlisthave a corresponding{{topic-title}}

This however is not working for me so if you could be so kind could you
explain to me how i should use the varialbe.

As expected, I cannot reproduce the problem you suggest. Parameter:

-p footer-center "{{topic-title}}"

works as expected (well, at least in latest version of ditac).
