Thanks for the thoughtful explanation, and for taking the time to test
things; I'll explore the samples you sent over the next couple of days.
Yes, it does seems that the design of <glossref> is imperfect – but any
chance of producing WebHelp output with tooltips makes me want to explore
all the possibilities.

I agree that the dita-users group does seem rather overloaded with oXygen,
which is one of the reasons why I visit and post there rarely; when I do,
it's usually because I have a theoretical question about *what does this
element do / what's it for*, rather than a practical question.
