Thanks for posting about these here. I've mentioned CHAOSS elsewhere (I think it was on members@) and talked about Outreachy at length during my ApacheCon Montreal talk on D&I last year. I'd love to see us get involved in both more deeply. I also mentioned the Recurse Center, who have some simple processes and beahvioural changes that I feel would do well here, given our current philosophies. Outreachy is especially noteworthy, as they've measurably increased diverse contribution to the Linux kernel in a way that was accepted by that (notoriously reactionary) community. By any metric, this is a success - and is a great counterexample to people who believe that "casting the net wider" translates to "lowering your standards." My slides, an audio recording, and a full talk transcript are online, and I'll keep linking them until people get sick of it: https://speakerdeck.com/wohali/building-and-sustaining-inclusive-communities https://feathercast.apache.org/2018/09/29/building-and-sustaining-inclusive-communities-joan-touzet/ https://wohali.dreamwidth.org/55736.html The flipside to the Outreachy story is that the Linux kernel community could be, well, more welcoming. So could we. I am eager to get that discussion started. -Joan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
