Good question.  The radio power supply delivers 12V, the RaspPi requires
5V (usually via MicroUSB).

The 7805 is a simple three legged component that takes 12V in on PIn 1
and provides regulated 5V on Pin 3. Pin 2 (centre pin is for ground). 

I took the 12V feed from the output of the large smoothing cap that
feeds the radio.

The ground pin was soldered to the ground plane of the radio power
supply board.

Essentially I drilled 3 holes in circuit board.  Pin 1 and 3 were
oversized so that the pins do not short against the ground plane.  They
were secured in place with hot glue.

Around the centre pin you scrape the green pcb away to reveal copper and
solder the pin to that.
