A sidestep from your original Idea , get a good iPad or android tablet and run some good controll app and keep the player in the closet . Or if you have a spare Touch chose the other Touch as player and controll it that way . Many miss the radio and Touch ability to act as controllers for other players just like the old squeezebox controller...
Otherwise some analog to radio kind of dongle ?
