I'd like to use UTF-8 non-ASCII msgids. The reason is that my site is
originally only in Finnish, and I'd like to provide the original
Finnish strings to the translator.
I believe gettext is able to handle UTF-8 msgids just fine, and it even
uses UTF-8 by default for Python files.
I can see that make-messages.py converts templates on-the-fly so
{%trans%} tags become gettext() calls. The converted file is then fed
to xgettext.
The templatize() call in make-messages.py strangely converts UTF-8
non-ASCII characters in my templates into their Python representations,
so for instance the character "รถ" becomes the 8 characters long string
"\xc3\xb6".
Can someone see what's going on and whether it's a bug or a feature,
and is it easily fixable?
