There is no longer a demo site unfortunately - it was not being maintained and was removed in Oscar 1.4 I think. So there isn't anything else to play with other than the sandbox that you're already aware of... The Sandbox isn't a bad place to start though - it provides all the basic functionality and gives you a sense of how you would set up a project based on Oscar.
