We apparently don't understand the whole story here, yet. On my Linux
system:

So, I'm not seeing what is claimed to be the root cause of the problem. So
what is special about the systems that reporting the problems? What is
your OS, for example?
I'm not happy applying any variation of this patch until we understand
this a bit better.
