Can confirm the patch works -- after much headscratching: Don't forget to
pass FILES to the 'form-factory':
Here's how I got it to work:

ImageForm = forms.models.form_for_model(Image)
request.POST.update(request.FILES)
f = ImageForm(request.POST)
