I think you're missing where the `size` is coming from.
`thumbnail.thumbnail.size` will return the '''correct''' size because the
`thumbnail` property gets the PIL image object internally.
You do raise the valid question whether we should cache this rather than
require a fs operation, but it '''does''' work the way it is now.
