 Because it looks simpler (and it's a syntax extension, really) and because
 then you're stuck with a pointless `item` context var.

 Neither of which are convincing arguments. And talking about this at
 sprint, it seemed like the core would just prefer to have a new filter
 named something separate anyway so I don't hold much hope for my patch
 really :)
