Comment:

 Yes, a default argument (like a dictionary) would be good.

 Since 95% I use the primary key if I use get(), I suggest this
 dict like API:
 {{{
 foo=Foo.objects.get(myid, default)
 }}}
 this should behave like
 {{{
 try:
     foo=Foo.objects.get(**{Foo._meta.pk.name: myid})
 except Foo.DoesNotExist:
     foo=default
 }}}
