This has been a bit of a discussion, rather than any clear path towards
resolving anything. There's django-rest-interface for those who REST-based
stuff. And I think there's enough experience around now for people to be
able to build most of these things without needing extra core support
(except for PUT, which is #5682).
If/when anybody builds something sufficiently general it's worth proposing
for django/contrib/, that can be brought up on django-dev.
