Comment:
Both this ticket and #5897 duplicate what the conditional get middleware
already does. There's no real disadvantage to including that middleware,
so it might not be worth moving this functionality around, due to the
disruption it will cause to existing setups.
Could probably be handled with a documentation improvement instead.
