Actually, according to my notes, if you use "python setup.py install"
things work properly. It's when you drop the "python" from the front that
things go awry. Hmm, that's assuming you're running Windows here (where
we identified this problem), but you don't specify what OS you are on. If
you're installing on OS X you might be hitting #7414, which is a different
problem and still open.
At any rate if you are on Windows, there is an easy workaround, if you
must use 0.96.2 rather than an SVN checkout. If you are on OS X you could
provide feedback on the current patch for #7414 and confirm whether it
fixes the issue for your case (the only file involved is setup.py, so you
can just replace that one file to test out the patch).
