Sounds like you are using a subversion checkout of Django with the 0.96
tutorial, or vice-versa. The tutorial you reference does not refer to the
`max_length` parameter, since that was introduced after 0.96. Similarly,
`sqlinitial` did exist in 0.96 and was changed afterwards.
